DEDICATIONS
This paper is dedicated to the faculty, staff and students of Clearwater Academy International for providing me with the opportunity to help young people become happy, productive, contributing adults. Each school day for the past 17 years, I have arrived at the front door looking forward to the adventure of helping our kids gain the knowledge and skills they need to achieve their dreams. “Work” doesn’t get much better than that!
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
My deepest thanks to John Harold Saxon Jr., West Point graduate, decorated officer, test pilot, engineer, math teacher, author and publisher of the Saxon math textbook series, for giving me good math books. They awakened my artist’s eye to the ideas and beauty of mathematics.
L. Ron Hubbard’s study methods and philosophy of education have influenced and enhanced every aspect of my work with children.
Trina Matthews, Ann Ciganero, and Linda Woodhouse used their years of teaching experience and knowledge to make valuable suggestions for improving The Other Side of Math. This is a better book because of them.
RESPONSIBILITY
Naturally, as an author, I accept full responsibility for the ideas expressed in “The Other Side of Math.” The concepts and practices described in this book are, ultimately, my own.
